- Biography
- I was born and raised in Savannah and on Tybee. I grew up fishing with my Dad and brothers in the creeks and rivers. I knew how to fish, crab and throw a cast net before I was 6 years old. I could run a boat and navigate the creeks by the time I was 8. I began sailing at 9 and regularly crewed on various racing boats for years. At 14 I learned to SCUBA dive and began a hobby that has been a passion my whole life.At 21 I began skydiving and found a perfect counterpoint to SCUBA diving.I started running when I was 13 because my Dad told me I had to be able to run one mile before he would let me take SCUBA lessons. Running became my daily meditation and I continue it to this day. I've run marathons and two ultras(Death Valley 500). I've also competed in numerous triathlons including the iron man and once did the double iron man in Mobile.I became a CPA at the ripe old age of 23. I was married for 21 years to Lindsey Aspinwall. She died from liver cancer in 2001. We have a son, Charlie who now lives in Washington and is following his dream. He is a really good man and I am proud of who he has become. I have discovered that I am incredibly blessed. At a stage in my life when I thought it was all downhill from here I met and fell in love with my soul mate. I have never felt as loved as I do with her, and I have never loved so strongly as I do for her. Catherine has brought me joy beyond measure, and has given life back to me. I feel happy and alive again thanks to her and her love. I am thankful for her and excited to spend the rest of my life with this beautiful, loving woman. In 2005 I had a heart attack. My heart simply stopped beating and I was "dead for 5 minutes". Yes I saw the light and was pulled towards it. I was resuscitated in an ambulance and angry to be brought back from that experience. I spent a week in the hospital being tested for everything but sickle cell and pregnancy. All the docs could figure out was that the stress and fatigue of my lifestyle had simply shut my heart down. They did say that had I not been in the shape I was that it appeared doubtful I would have survived. The day they let me go home I started my current life. I wake up every day happy and thankful to have another day to create what I want in my life. Im happy and content. I've had all the toys, seen all the places, and done all of things I ever thought possible. I am a happy person.
