Well, the midweek holiday is gonna make things tricky for me. Catalina would be great, but there's slim chance we'd get a mooring...might zip over early, have lunch and snorkel, then back before the wind kicks up. The Queen Mary does a great fireworks display--a lotta folks fire up their boats for the only time of the year and make it out to Long Beach for that---makes the ride home in the dark is quite an adventure!!

On the upper Potomac, a lot of folks go to the annual "Not on the 4th of July" fireworks display. It actually doesn't occur this year until the 14th. It's only a few miles downriver for us, so I'm sure we'll go out for that.

On the 4th we'll probably stay in the marina and watch all the drunks trying to get back in their slips  .

Default 4th

Here in central Illinois on the Illinois River, the city of Peoria puts on a fantastic 4th of July show at the riverfront. There is a riverfront section of the town where the landlovers can sit down and enjoy the show also.

They shut down barge traffic, letting the recreational boaters throw out the anchor and enjoy the fireworks. A couple of fireworks barges get towed out and the party starts. You can tune into a local radio station for the fireworks music repertoire and enjoy that while your watching the boom booms!

After all is over then it is the Michigan 500 on the water. I think that is why we stay in our slip at the marina where we can see the fireworks just fine.........

Everybody have a safe 4th

Ahoy, 3388sam.

You have a run-down on dockside gas on Chelan? We spent a weekend there last year (no boat, jetski only) and are planning a return trip this summer for at least a week, with the boat this time. Do you have 'favorite' spots you like to boat to? I'm always open for suggestions/ don't miss attractions. We are staying at the Best Western Lakeside.

Thanks,

There are only a few place to buy gas on the lake and they know it!($$$)
1. Shell at the Chelan Marina by the sea plane/ ferry dock.
2. Watson's
3. Kelly's resort South Side between Chelan St Park and 25 mile creek
4. 25 mile creek.
5. The cheapest gas is at the Chelan Yacht Club, but you have to be a member of a yacht club and if you can talk your way in they have free ice!
6. Stehekin -

We spend our time up lake past 25 mile creek at the boat only campsites!
There are about 15 areas the can only be access by boat. They have docks, out houses, tables and fire pits. If you over night the cost is $5 and you need to buy the sticker at the State parks. They do have a ranger that comes by every day and he does check.
You don't need a sticker if you are just going to stay a couple of hours.

If you make it up to Stehekin you have to go to the bakery. About a half hour walk or rent a bike!

Uh, thats all?

Wow! Thanks. Last year we stayed in town and jet ski'd out at the state park. Nice, but crowded on the beach. Looking forward to 'quieter' resort and a few nights on the water. I've actually jet ski'd the falls 'in the winter', though quite a few years ago. Had to break ice to get near the falls. Will post a couple pics if I can find them again.

We're up there 9-14 Aug. Will check in to see if your around then.

Default Heading to the sound sound...Fair Harbor Marina

We went down to Fair Harbor Marina on memorial day and had a great time. Called last week and they still had a spot open. The weather looks like it's going to be great. We plan on heading out early on the 3rd and come back on the 5th.

Well we HAD plans and reservations on Pender Island, then maybe over to Roche Harbour for the fireworks. Then Friday afternoon just as we were getting ready to head to the boat I get a call from my mechanic:

'just letting you know we started work on your boat this afternoon. The port side exhaust system is removed and one battery disconnected .. so don't start the boat.' Eh What?

So here i sits, landlubbering with perfect boating weather going to waste. I am glad the mech finally got going on the job during busy season, but to do 2 hours work at the end of the last day before a long weekend is cruel!

I'll watch the Roche harbour fireworks from my deck again with binoculars instead I guess.

man..that sucks....we got off work at 11 and ran to the boat...it was already in the water....we headed out towards everett only to get blasted by winds and waves...we stayed in everett and headed out this morning to friday harbor for gas....left friday harbor and made poets cove at about 10:30..the water was fabulously flat....
we went thru customs in something like 5 minutes.....got to our slip and it's been fabulous ...tomorrow we're off to maple bay for 2 days...

hope you get your boat fixed quickly...8 more days left on our vacation

New plans for us on the 4th. Launching on the Pend Orieille river just out of Priest river and boat camping on Lake Pend Orieille (North Idaho).

No fireworks in my hold. I'll let all the other fanactics blast their paychecks into the air for our entertainment, well off-shore, of course.

Weather looks to be hi 90's to 100's.

Ahhhhh! The water will be so cool!

Celebrate this countries glory and independence, but please be safe.

Cheers to you all,
