The same basic principals apply when initiating vessel to shore communication (vessel to marina, vessel to bridge, vessle to lock, etc) as when calling vessel to vessel using VHF. However, when calling vessel to shore make sure you confirm the frequency/station that marina, gas dock, etc. is specifically monitoring. I would do so ahead of time, if possible. They don't typically monitor 9 or 16. Locks and bridges will usually have a sign posted, though they typically monitor 13. (Remember to use the LOW power when calling bridges and locks as well as when close to the marina you're hailing).
