Some say to only use the tabs to get on plane then to fully retract them to reduce drag, other like myself use minimal trim to balance the boat port to starboard.

I only use mine to balance the boat due to wind. It has a tendency to lean into the wind and we get some strong winds on my lake.

I don't need them to plane so i don't use them for that but you may need to.

I would start with them all the way up and the drive all the way in. When I advanced the throttle to get on plane, I would tick the outdrive out about 3 clicks and put both tabs down until I was on plane. Once on plane the tabs would come back up. Then I would click the tabs down until they were set for the sea state. Drive gets clicked out until it starts to cavitate, then goes in one click to stop cavitation.

I used to use the bow spray and my rail stanchions as guides. Try to get the tabs as far up as possible without having the boat pound. Once there, I would adjust port starboard to balance any list.
