Default Time On Board 2012

The new year has begun and we are off to a slow start. The weather this past Friday and Saturday was absolutely fabulous yet we only got to spend Friday night on the boat. We had to leave at noon on Saturday so we never left the slip. So our entry for this years log is 1 night, 0 hours and 0 miles.

Since I live in New England (North Eastern US) and my boat is on the hard winterized and wrapped until late next April, all I can say is....

Whaddya think, guys... shall we all go see the good Dr (on the lake) and beat the sh*t out of him while all our boats sit in storage and it's freezing outside?

Signing off from the Pacific NW...

Red face Winter Blues

Jeff,

I'll hold him down while we beat him! Although winter so far has been snow-free, it remains winter,. Drove down to Silver Beach Marina a couple of
weeks ago a and looked longingly out across BEEUTIFUL Lake Coeur d' Alene. No prospects for being on the water for another 10 weeks. Headed to the Seattle Boat show just
to be around all things boating. Hang in there!

All joking and 'tongue-in-cheek' threats aside. I'm a bit jealous, but I try to think of it like this "If every day were a beautiful day, how would you know the difference? Only when you experience a bad day can you truly appreciate the nice ones". I try to take this approach to boating. The long northern winter allows me to truly appreicate those beautiful days when we are boating. At least that is what I try to convince myself through these long winter months. Plus maintaing a few additional hobbies through the winter lets me pass my time. In all actaulity, by the end of the boating season, I look forward to a change of pace. Of course that lasts all of about 3 weekends then I'm ready to go boating again. LOL

I know the feeling...........the admiral around September is starting to resent the the time that boating takes up from her E-Baying business. But then when the boat is on the blocks for the winter, its..... "I miss the boat!"......can't win.

This year as strange as it has been, (job and all ) was very relaxing until the kitchen fiasco started in October. I found myself not rushing (this drives my wife nuts to rush ) to get down to the boat on the weekend when she was off. In fact she would go hunting for her E-Bay supplies ( Goodwill, garage sales, etc) and meet me at the marina later. That gave time for her stuff and then she felt the boat wasn't this bad thing after all. Sort of a love- hate thing :-)

I know sometimes in the fall I am so ready to put that boat away for the season, It's not funny. After all wrapped up it's catch-up time on the house maintenence and then its Christmas and then the boat shows start and finally you are counting the days to get it back into the water. The midwest boating cycle........

Don't get me wrong....we have our seasons also. By july 4th i am sick of boating and do not really return to boating untill first of october. It does not help during july, august, and september the temps are well into the 110's and only getting down to 95's at night!!!! I know, I know, "its a dry heat tho".......well stick your head in the oven, its a dry heat also. Just too damn hot to go boating and the water temps are in the high 80's, just gets to be too much........

yo roger and hava...

know this feeling to......some times i think.....get it out and winterize it......but then after a few days.....starts tickeling again.......but the only thing i'm thinking of right now is buying a new and bigger boat....still going for the bavaria 27 or 28 ft (the new 28 ft is wunderfull)

21-29 of januari boatshow in dusseldorf in germany only about 250 km from here....we'll go over their maybe we can make a good deal by buying the boat on the show.......

here in the netherlands still no winter, a year ago plenty off snow allready in november....but now.... storm, rain and sometimes a softy sunny hour.....

greatz, ed

Ed..........Same here in the midwest..........a very mild winter. It has been in the upper 40's lower 50's here for a couple of days. Up and down the temps have been.

I get to go over to the local Bass Pro Shop and talk to the management about putting in a booth for our Safe Boating Courses for the USPS at their Boat Show that they are having next week. That should be Thursday when our snow and ice storm should hit us........back to normal again!

I envy HavaMAx. This coming weekend will be the second out of the last 72 weekends that we will not make it to the boat. Very depressing. I also envy those who are not land locked. We may get there almost every weekend but we can't go far. Its only 25 miles from the marina to the north end of the lake and less to the south end.

Roger, our pump out and water have been shut down for about four weeks now. Two weekend back, just to keep the water tank at least 1/2 full, I carried two 5 gallon jugs of water and dumped in the tank. I can turn the water on to our dock but that aggravation of draining it is not worth it just for our boat. Several of us usually will top off at the same time. On Christmas day we cruised down to one of the other marines and pumped out. They leave theirs on year around.
