In that pic, the water is roughly waist high at the transom. We always anchor bow into shore, run the anchor out, then stake 2 ropes at 45deg. angles off the stearn.
Lake Powell is famous for it's slickrock formations, it generally makes poor anchorage. It's also famous for sudden storms and winds in excess of 70mph.
By anchoring to shore in this fashion, we have survived 70+mph winds, 2 years ago on Memorial day, I had to run 4 ropes off the stearn as I feared the 2 would not hold.
On that weekend 7 boats sank. So, yes, this is the way we generally spend the nights, it does cause minor rash on the underside but it's minimal as we select very sandy beeches to camp.
Being able to sleep through said winds is indeed priceless.
