Default Summer is here

Even with the chance of thunderstorms today the younger crowd gathered at the Sand Bar on Lake Norman. Less than half the boats as the previous weekend it still reminds us that summer is here. We were tired up alongside a houseboat that was beached on the island and watched the antics while trying to recall what it was like being in our 20's. The music was loud and thumping, that disco dancing stuff (Night at the Roxbury) were every song sounds the same. To the left and out of the picture was one lone boat with two young couples who insisted on blasting their stereo even though they were out numbered, and powered, by the larger party. I still don't understand the dueling radio game. The website LKNFUN.com posts pictures from other weekends and events around the lake.

My Maxum is still in dry dock. With all the flooding on our lake they are recommending no boats. There are no open boat launches, gas or even docks. Boat houses are unusable. Luckily i am one of the few on the lake with a private mooring. I saw a buddy out today on his 290 Sundancer. He keeps it on a boat lift so he is OK.

I've used the downtime wisely to get caught up on maintenance, including repairing some deep scratches and rub marks. Today I started it up with the earmuffs on and everything checks out. I have to confess I was a bit concerned as I winterized it myself for the first Time last fall and I missed a drain plug! Luckily it was the one on the hose, not on the block, so no harm done. I didn't bother to read the manual because my SeaRay has the same 5.7 l block but the yamaha has only 4 plugs.

This weekend was much better with the weather here in central Illinois. Spend putting snaps on our 2001 Maxum 3000 SCR for new enclosures friday, saturday and sunday. New bimini and the whole 9 yards. Got everything done except the back covers. That was alot of snaps. I'll do the back covers during the week sometime. Hoping that the holiday weekend gets a better weather forecast. Did get the jet ski on the lift.

I finally got the boat in the water on Sat. and spent most of the time in jeans and a sweatshirt. Where's Al Gore and his 'Global Warming'?

Most of you guys are a lot further along than I am. Not only have I not been able to splash the boat but I've not even been able to get it ready to splash.

Too many projects at home....

Where is the rain? I swear the weatherman is losing it. It is a beautiful monday morning in central Illinois. Turned off the air and might head down to the boat to finish my projects. The weekend is looking better for the holiday.

Enjoy everyone

It always worries me when the weatherman forecasts good weather for the holiday weekend a week out. It always seems to change!

Roger...
didn't help....memorial weekend is coming up..our plan was to bag work thursday and race home ...have everything ready so all we had to do is load and go...
run to the boat..load the boat..toss it in the water and head out to roche harbor for the weekend....
the weather at first was predicted to be fair...maybe some rain...now it's supposed to be ugly...the weather over the weekend is ok..not warm..but maybe decent...monday/tues...rain and nasty....ugly ride coming home...guess I'll be going to the show down at the mall....

Don't feel bad the midwest forecast is still going back and forth with rain for the holiday weekend on one of the days. I call it the 500 jinks.

But then again this week was suppose to start out rainy and it has been beautiful. Flip a coin. Enclosures up and sweat shirts on Steve!

Have a great holiday everybody.....

Water temp is in the low 80's here. I will get in and float around when it reaches 80, has to be 85 before the Admiral will get in. Once it hits 85 she'll spend hours in the water. Can't hardly get her out, until the water hits the mid 90's then we don't usually get in until after the sun sets or early morning.

I did take a little dip back on New Years eve. The water was a chilly 48 F. Never been in water that cold and don't want to again. The amazing thing is after a couple days of drying out my iPhone survived just fine.

Hey David..........I have a water temp guage on my depth finder and when our Illinois river gets around 80 you can spend all day in it. Lots of 90 degree weather for that one. Usually around the middle of June the river starts to warm up for some serious floating...

Never did the artic plunge thing......knowing my luck I would cold cock myself by hitting some ice :-)
