Default Strange noice at low RPM"s

I have 95 2300sc with 5.7 230hp motor. At low rpms while underway I am getting a squeling noice. I replaced power steering belt ....still noice there.....noice does not happen when boat is in nuetral only when in gear. Once RPM:s get above 1200 noice goes away. I would think if it was water pump or alternator going bad I would hear noice in gear or not. Could this be gimble bearing?? Any help?

it's hard to say where it's coming from since I'm not there...if you can't isolate the noise then take it to a mechanic....squeeling noise doesn't sound like a gimble bearing...probably an idler bearing.......

I can say from very recent experience it should not be the gimble bearing. That should come out as a very low pitched growl at engagement of gears, then increase as RPM's go up.

Noise like you described cannot be good though. If you can't get tit to a good shop, than at least look at the grease fittings on the transom (inside behind motor) for the output shaft bearing.

When you replaced the steering pump belt, did you try running it off? That would at least eliminate the pump and its shaft/bearing.

Sounds like there is still a belt slipping somewhere. I'd have a mechanic check it out. (Or change all the belts out to see if that corrects the problem).
