Default Small leak

Hello everyone..

I have a 01 Maxum 3000 scr with 5.0 L carbs with Bravo 2's. I changed my thermostat along with the gasket plus the plastic insert on the housing last week on the port side and I am having problems with it not seating. It leaks! I have taken a straight edge razor and cleaned each surface to what I thought was clean and flat. Still I get a little leak.

Is there a trick or something that I have missed here. I even took all the hoses off the first time I mounted it back to the engine block and still when all put back together it leaked...

I would guess I still have something on the opening and maybe try another gasket....

Your thoughts...

Roger

Roger, I rec that you get back to basics. Gasket on bottom, plastic sleeve (make sure the notch is aligned with the groove inside thermostat housing), thermostat, then O-ring on top (and sitting in it's groove in the thermostat housing). Torque to 30 ft/lbs.
I believe your gasket provides continuity for the ECT so you can't use a sealant.

I have used a fine grit sandpaper to clean the surfaces. I also use gasket sealer around the opening for the thermostat but not on the ears where the brass rivets are which provide a ground for the temp senders.
