Anyway finally got my new baby down to the coast, still a bit of snow on the high passes.
Hoping for a launch in a few weeks. Thanks to HavaMax for the comments.

Here's my old 2700 SCR - Gradually bringing her back. Next year I plan to redo the cabin and restore the topside gelcoat. I really enjoy learning how to fix and upgrade this boat. This forum is indespensible for that.

She is getting put back together, slowly but surely. I‘ve had her since 02, drove her around for a long time until I got the smart idea of restoring her. When you start taking stuff apart it’s amazing how much rust you find and is hidden. Deployments put an end to the progress real quick, lol but now I have time. I’m hoping to have her at least ready for paint in 2 years and finished in 3-4, I'm in no rush.

Old cars can definitely be time and money consuming. The old boat saying - BOAT (break out another thousand) can just as easily be applied to old cars - sometimes ever more so than boats.
Good luck with it.

Hi to everyone. I just bought a 1991 2400 SR.
Hi Everyone
My name's Brian and I just bought a 1991 MAXUM 2400 SR. Hopefully the photo will show up here. The seller was a great guy, owned it for 6 years but just wasn't using it and was leaving the country for a couple months soon. I've been a sailboat person until now (30' Islander first and currently a San Juan 24) and so have zero experience with power boats. So why the heck did I buy a boat with a 454 MerCruiser? :-) I looked at a lot of boats and this one just was so dang cool and the price was reasonable so I just went for it. The engine had about $11K worth of work in 2003 with all receipts from Hyatt's Harbor Service in Tacoma, though it's possible it was only the top end (recpt says "7.4L Powerhead AY") which was the big ticket part ($4400). So perhaps the bottom end is still original. Total hours on boat maybe 400 (rebuild work was done at 274). So, not sure how much trouble I can expect but we'll see! I live on Bellingham Bay so salt water use for now. I have it at Hilton Marina which is an in/out service with a sling, etc. I have a slip for my sailboat in local harbor so when I sell that I may put the Maxum in the water but I don't know if that's a good move with this boat or not. Obviously keeping it out of the brine is always preferred but also not as convenient.
So far looks like everything works on the boat though at 21 years old I expect things will break. Any advice on my boat would be very appreciated, especially handling and the mechanics of engine and outdrive/trim which is totally new to me. And I'll sure I'll start asking questions once I get some experience in her. This looks like a great forum and I'm looking forward to exploring and reading more.
Cheers,
Brian
