Default Shift free throttle

Hello All,
Last weekend I tried to see if I could free throttle my engine as it was idling a bit low and would stall when shifting into gear. It seemed to me that I cannot disengage the throttle linkage to free throttle? Did this boat have that option? Are all shifters able to free throttle? Not sure I'm using the right word here.

Boat is a 2007 MAXUM 1800 SR3 4.3L

Yes you should have a button to press in which disengages the shift cable allowing throttle only. The button should be at the pivot point of the handle.

I have tried pushing that button and the button moves freely but the shift arm won't move out. Would you recommend I pry it out softly?

You can try removing the button and spraying some lubricant in the hole to see if that works.

Oh I think I figured it out I thought I had to move the lever arm out towards the seat to disengage the gear, thats what I meant about prying outwards. But now I just push the button and then push the lever forward to enage free throttle.
