Default Not Enough Batteries?

2002 2700SCR - Last season I thought my batteries were bad - 2 dual purpose 24's, so I went out and bought 2 new DP 27's. Well, it wasn't the batteries, but the charger. (The charger will be my next post) Anyway, now I have 2 relatively new 24's and 2 new 27's. Should I add the 24's to the 27's and use them all? If yes, how would I wire them up?

Thanks all.

There is never any harm in having too many batteries! The more reserve power the better!

Wire them up in a parrellel configuration, that is - Pos to pos to pos to pos, and neg to neg to neg to neg. That will give you what is basically 1 massive 12volt battery bank.

Next concern is how you are charging them... if you have a smart charger, no worries, but if you runt hem dead, then ask your alternator to charge them back up... you could be putting it under too much strain - what's the setup right now?

Hey Brit Rider welcome to the club
Having a reserve is when you can switch to spare batteries after the ones you are using have gone dead. So I would use the 24's as well but hook them seperatly from the 27's using a two or three way switch. I would also put in a battery isolator to help with the charging process.
You my still need to beef up your alternater too.

When you suspect a problem with your batteries or charging system always check with a volt meter to give you some idea what is wrong.
Battery voltage is around 12.6 to 12.8.Charging voltage is over the 12.8 and up to as high as 15 voltsDC.

Cheers
Paul

Default Thanks All

I have the stock pro mariner charger. I think I have electrical issues because the charger is not working and is not getting power to it.

I'll have more information after I check it in a few weeks.

More to come!
