Default New owner of Maxum 1700XR looking for assistance

I recently purchased a Maxum 1700XR with a blown motor and am planning on installing a 50 hp Yamaha 4 stroke that I've owned for many years. I realize that it will be underpowered, however it will only be used for cruising and fishing with light loads. It currently has a stainless 17" pitch 4 blade prop and was been tuned up this spring.

My questions are;

What is the bare hull weight of this boat?
Do you think it will plane with a 400pound person load, and my 50hp motor?
What is the minimum hull speed for planing?

The hull measures only 16.1' from the base of the transom to the tip of the bow. It has 1.2 foot sponsons/ "swim platform" that are mounted behind the transom that only touch the water when the boat is at rest.

thanks for your help

I found this calculation on another site;

For a modified-V hull (assuming 16 degrees or less):
Total Weight / 30 = HP required to drive the boat at 25 mph, at a 75 percent throttle setting

For a deep-V hull:
Total Weight / 25 = HP required to drive the boat at 25 mph, at a 75 percent throttle setting

Welcome aboard

That is a generic formula that should get you in the ball park.

What year is the boat?

Saw you posted on BOC as well, you might a better response there as I have not seen many post here regarding OB powered boats, but need to know the year to help.
