Default New Guy With 3 question

Hello, I recently upgraded from my old 1991 boat to a Maxum 2005 1900sr3 with the 4.3MPI

I have all winter but there are three things that I know I want to take care of before the 2013 boating season.

First is that the tachometer just sits at 1000 and does not move with an increase in RPMs.

Second is my boat has a gauge for a depth finder but it was not a option the first owner opted for. Is it as simple as buying a transducer? Should it be pre wired back in the bilge?

Third issue is that the boat has a snap on bow cover, But not one for the main seating area. It has the snaps around the windshield but they do not continue around the back of the boat. How big of a deal is this going to be?

Thanks for the forum.

The snaps are not a big deal .Do you have a cover??? if not when you get one match the snaps to the cover easy to do.A friend had the cover made and installed for $ 600.for the same size boat as yours. The tach try cleaning and check connections mine has done that at times. It may be under warranty check it out.hope this helps

Welcome aboard Othello. Ditto, check to make sure the connections are clean. Have you tried tapping it? Mine sticks sometimes and that works. The guage is more than likely a Faria and they have a limited lifetime warranty. You might be able to get it swapped out cheaply.

The Depth guage will require a transducer. They make through hull transducers, shoot-through hull transducers and transom mounted. Your hull should be solid so a shoot through would probably be the easiest to install.

The snaps for you canvas cover are easy to replace, many of us do it ourselves as part of annual maintenance. This link will give you ideas:

Thanks for the replys.
After a little research the factory depth finder was a through hull transducer that mounts just in front of the engine. Since the gauge is already in the dash can I assume that it is all wired and just need a transducer mounted and pluged in? Any Ideas on how to figure out where it plugs in?
