Default new boat

I picked up my new boat on Friday. 2700 SE. This is my first boat and so naturally I am a little nervous. I have a question about trim tabs. I had 4 adults on board of which 1 was a captain giving me lessons. I thought trim tabs were to help bring the boat up on plane but i was told it was to balance the boat out and that the trim on out drive can be used for planing? Can someone give me a better explanation on the use of trim tabs?

Howdy and welcome to the zoo....I used to own the 2700 and I can say that yes.....your both right...the drive all the way down is used for helping to push the bow down...reduce bow wander...and help the boat plow thru rough water...

the tabs are used for levelling the boat, reduce bow wander AND ....helping to get a heavily laden boat on plane....

usually when I had people on board for a trip to the islands or something...I'd have to drop the drive all the way down..drop the planes...hit the throttle and keep it spinning around 4k rpm....let the boat jump up on plane...then reduce the planes...and bump the drive up.......

oooooooorrr!!!...install bennett auto trim tabs......

ok thanks SP i have so much to learn. I have to say when i go full throttle and she comes up on plane that is a great thrill. i throttle down to about 3800 rpm and it maintains the plane. i will have to play with the drive and tabs
