Default Need some help.

I bought a new OEM water pump, to replace a aftermarket POS.

The New mercury water pump outlet pipe has a Outside diameter of 1.5 inches.

The hose that is connected to my transom is 1-1/4 id.
Why is it a different diameter than my old waterpump????
surely the hose would be correct for both pumps???

Spent the last 3 hours trying to get it to slip onto the waterpump.
Even cutting the ends of the hose to allow it to slip over the pipe wont cut it.

Trying to get the boat in the water, have no idea what I can do.???
After spending $1000:00 on new waterpump, this is not what i expected to happen.
Anyone?????????

Interesting, did you purchase a pump for for year/serial number engine? Maybe the newer pumps went to the larger hose.

Ordered off serial#.
Mercury moved to a bigger id for added cooling on the pump, which necessitates a bigger hose.
You cant buy the older smaller id pump, all are bigger now.

The Fix:
I ordered the quick connect kit for the new style pump, it has a reducer that fixes this problem.
Will try installing on Friday and hopefully this is the fix.

Trying to get a 1.1/4 I.D hose onto a 1.1/2 I.D. is Not possible.
It only took me 3 hours of soap, removing all kinds of stuff and standing on my head to figure it out.
This is the case for all Bravo 3 drives that still have the stock 1.1/4 id hose.
Added cooling might be worth all the grief.(Maybe).
Thanks for your suggestion, see what happens.

That being the case this would be true for all Bravos not just the Bravo 3. I have a Bravo 2 and still have the original pump although I have replaced the housing which has the hose barbs on it and they didn’t change size at least 3 years ago when I did it.

I hear you! But that’s why folks refer to things by the boat buck, Break Out Another Thousand.
