Default Mystery Pump

On my 2004 2400SE engine compartment there is a thru hull valve and pump that has a hose attached to it and it goes aft through a thru hull to a garden hose fitting. Where is the switch that controls this pump? Is this suppose to be a live well because it is raw water strainer (brass) under the hull.

Can you post a few pictures?

Wondering if this is the fresh water pump and city water hook up bypass, however the thru hull is what is not clear.

Sounds like the city water hook up.

A guy on my dock has a pump to pull lake water while coving out. They switch to it for showers, toilet, etc. so they aren't using their fresh water supply up. Sea pump? I know they bought it aftermarket.

Is it a male or female hose connection? If it is male, this is a wash down pump.

That would be something that was added, so switch could be anywhere. You'll have to follow the wires.

Sure looks like a pump for a live well, where does the hose go? Sea water wash down?

What material is the thru hull and valve? Does not brass/bronze. The brass pick up on the bottom of the boat is not a strainer but just has a screen for large material.

looks like my live well pump. I'd recommend to look over the swim deck for holes or filled in holes on it as a sign it was there. I never used a bait bag so not sure if those would be set up same as a live well for the pump/thru hull. But you can always check to see if there are any marks from where a bag would have been mounted.

Have you trace the wiring yet up forwards? My livewell and washdown share the same 3 position rocker.

My washdown pump is larger and lays horizontally.

Live well or raw water wash down pump. There are a few problems with that setup.

1) You should be using TWO hose clamps for any connection under water.

2) That is not the proper hose for an throughull connection. You should be using reinforced hose for that.

At least they used a seacock, however the seacock isn't tied to the bonding system.

Default mystery pump no more.

Hello,

Well..., traced the wires to an ACC switch on the helm. Opened the six screws holding the switch panel on and low and behold there was a red wire that has come off the fuse buss! Cut the end (looks like it had been off for quite a while as it was oxidized) and attached a new plastic booted female terminal and poo-ff the ACC light came on and so did the pump. TY people!

It is just a pump to suck water from the bottom of the boat. The hose goes thru the upper aft, just by the exterior shower. I am thinking it is a way of getting fresh water to transfer into the freshwater holding tank.

All is good. Biggest problem I had was where was the on/off switch.

Wow do not think I would but water the boats in into the fresh water tank. Maybe use it wash down the boat if it's fresh water.

I will try for a wash down application. See how much pressure I can get from it.

TY.

That is not a pump designed for developing pressure. Probably not gonna get much

Interesting. If it was intended to fill the water tank, you'd think they'd plumb it to a fill fitting on the top of the tank. Save the step of holding a shower nozzle for 3 hours to fill the water tank.

It sounds more like a 'transom shower', though I've never seen one use raw water before. I've also never seen the need for one in fresh water either. We use them in salt water to rinse the saltwater off before drying off. I couldn't live without one.

Don't know why you'd ever want to pump raw water into your potable water tank.

I'm thinking maybe a rigged up live well? Maybe they strapped a cooler on the platform and ran a hose into it?

Just had a thought, could the PO used it for a fish cleaning station?
