Default Mercruiser power trim/tilt leakage

I have a 2001 Maxum 2500 SCR that has developed an oil leak apparently from
the trim/tilt control. I checked the steel lines that go into the pump and they are tight. I was researching on line and read where other owners have experienced a problem with the plastic reservoir leaking.

Has anyone experienced this problem and if so how did you correct it?

Any advice or information would be appreciated.

John

Are you leaking gear lube into the bilge or into the water?

Default Trim / tilt.

Leaking oil is confined to a small area in the bildge. This are has been cleaned and then washed with Dawn. I have absorbent pads under the motor to collect any new leakage. No leakage noticed outside the transom or anywhere in the water.

Ok then it may be the plastic coupler that attaches the lube line to the transom thru hull fitting.

Mine leaked where the metal solenoid assembly attaches to the plastic reservoir. I replaced the big oring that is sandwiched and it solved that leak.

I do have a VERY minor leak where one of the quick connect fittings attaches to the powertrim reservoir. The Parker quickconnect has a tiny little oring inside that i replaced. Still leaks very little though.

Default Trim leak

Thank you for your reply.
Did you have to remove the entire pump assembly to replace the o-rings?

I did have to remove it. It was worth it though, I cleaned out the oil reservoir that had metal shaving sediment. I also repainted the bracket since it’s prone to rust because it’s not stainless steal. I’ll post pics when I get home.
