Default mercathod control box.

last week I stopped by my local dealer to buy zincs and the parts guy told me that there is a new control box for the mercathod system that basically doubles the field strength of the mercathod at the bottom of the drive...cost is 40 bucks and since I have the B3 drive...it's a good purchase to get...I go thru zinc's like crazy each yr......

just an FYI for you guys...

Default new mercathode

hi guys

I was wondering who makes the mercathode you wrote about on the Maxum Owners Club Website. I also have a Bravo III and would love to find out more about the new system you mentioned.

Thanks for all your help on the site.

welcome to the zoo...hope you'll find this place useful and fun....the mercathode red box is made by mercury marine...go to your dealer and ask for the red mercathode box.....it's only about 40 bucks ...so far it seems to help out alot....

I know an outdrive has cathodes fitted as standard .. above mentions the 'new mercathode' system .. is this only really necessary if you keep your boat on a mooring ?

I always trailer my boat - so only in the water when in use (salt water) ... so is there no benefit t o fitting a Mercathode system ?

It's an Aplha I 2006 drive.

personally I'd say yeah...the salt water ocean is like one giant battery.....so....you would end up replacing zinc's more often and possibly replacing or damaging the outdrive...but that's just me...if you have one on already..then you may feel that the red box isn't needed...these are mainly for the B3 drives ..all that stainless steel props swinging really close to the aluminum drive is a real problem..the stainless steel acts as the anode to the drive ...so the red box is an upgrade if you have the B3 drive.....
