Default Maxum prices in UK

The Exchange rate has moved very favourably for UK purchasing power - at least for most things ... effective rate of 1.98$ to the pound.

Yet UK dealer prices are not reflecting this ... when I asked my dealer he said "we buy in pounds" so cost is the same ... which I find strange, if they buy a US product from a US company in the US .. then they would pay in USD.

Unfortunately the price in the UK is a complete over charge ....
for example an 1800 SR3 here works out at $38,000 for a 4.3 190hp.

I'm sure the US price is cheaper than that !

A question for any UK owners - have any of you imported your own boat ? or looked at doing this ?

Maybe buying a new or used (less than yr old) boat and importing it would work out a lot cheaper ?

hey osprey....I've read several posts where people in the UK/Neatherlands have bought a boat from www.yachtworld.com..and had it shipped over via freighter and saved tons...a new 1800 is about 20k here in USD.....so..even if you bought straight from a dealer..and had it shipped ...it would still be cheaper...in my thoughts though.....
it might be worth checking on.... arr

Thanks I'll take a look at the website.

One of the issue is that we have to pay 'import duty' of about 20% on non-EU manufactured goods - based on selling price.

The other issue is that boats must have a CE certificate, as build requirements are slightly more onerous for Europe (automatic fire extinguishers etc.)

I will have to find if I can get a US dealer to order me a CE certified boat, hold it in in US for a couple of months, including coming over on a holiday and using it, and then import as a used ... but CE certified boat.

Maybe if I then 'sold' it to 'myself' ... I would have a lower purchase price, and thus pay less import duty ? .... unless that loop hole has been stopped.

I live a couple of miles East in Jersey Marine village ... I'm out in Swansea Bay (lauinch at Knab Rock) most weekends.
With kneedboarders or skiiers attached.

I don't currently have a Maxum, but intend buying one - in fact ready to buy one now, hence my question on import.
