Default leaking transom

We have a 2001 2352NV that has a leak problem at the transom. Is there information available regarding this problem. Local marine mechanic has indicated he will need to pull the engine to determine the exact cause. Are there any other reported incidents of this type?

well..we need more info to give a real definitive answer....like engine/drive/what kind of water is leaking in??..ie salt or freshwater...are you in salt water??..lake??..river???

so with that said...any boat can have a leak problem...my new bayliner 340 had both bellows installed wrong..so..they leaked into the bilge all the time....since your bellows is 8 yrs old...it might need replacing....if it sat in salt water with the drive in the trailer postition..then that could have accellerated the weakening of the bellows.....

just depends on how it was treated and taken care of....

but the mechanic saying that the engine has to come out..I'd start with the outdrive myself....pull that and inspect the bellows....that would probably be the culprit...
welcome to the zoo......

Thank you for your reply. The engine is a 5.7L Mercruiser with a bravo 3 out drive. The boat has only been in fresh water but has been in the water for at least 2 years. From an external inspection the boots look worn but not broken. Water appears to be coming in on the stbd side of the out drive housing.

Regards,

jerry..
then I'd say that the o-ring has gone bad...allowing water into the bellows....need to pull the boat...then the drive and check out the o-ring and bellows/gimbal bearing...
