Hi everyone,

We have a 1994 2300 SCR we recently put $4,000 for trim tabs repair and in the process found out there is a gas leak.

Harbor mechanic was suggesting selling boat. We had a car fabricator who also works on boats a look along with another guy. 1 Guys couldn't give estimate on repair as he said it would be expensive another guys was saying like $10, 00 roughly. if the issue is really the gas tank my questions are:

1. To build a new tank yourself how hard is it? Did you do it because you have tools/shop/welder at home?

2. I understand cutting into a gas tank can be dangerous because of fumes/ sparks is cutting boar dot get to the tank just as dangerous? could I buy tools then cut to the tank myself reducing man hours needed to a professional to replace tank?

3. Where are other places I could check before assuming it is gas tank like lines etc?

I am handy, I am not sure how to measure my handiness but I do thinks like brakes job, some bolt on a cars etc. We bought the boat for $11,000. 2 years ago and put around $15,000. into repairs/ maintenance of boat. The engine is strong low hours and it was overhauled. New trim tabs installed last month and we haven't used the boat yet. New custom covers. So I would prefer to not have to sell the boat and the harbor repair guys charge $240 an hour. So any work we can do ourselves would be great.

First check the fill hose, vent hose and fuel supply to engine hose for cracks or other signs of leaks. I believe the 2300 SCR is the predecessor to the 2400 SCR pocket cruiser. If so the tank is under the midberth floor. I believe there is a post where another owner of the 2400 cut the berth floor to get the tank free then removed the aft facing window to get the tank out and new one in. I recommend buying a prebuilt tank that is certified.
