Default Keeping extra gas on the boat

How many store extra gas on your boat? Just thinking about how safe it is. It's an I/O thinking of keeping 10gallons just in case near the bow in two 5 gallon plastic containers. I almost ran out over the weekend on the river.

probably best to keep it on the swim step.....keeping gas below is really really dangerous...

I absolutely would not do this.

Use the 1/3 rule: 1/3 to get there, 1/3 to get home, 1/3 just in case. Personally, I get on the boat every Friday and the gas tank is full and the holding tank is empty. On Sunday afternoon on my way back in, I top off the gas and pump out the holding. If I use between 1/3 to 1/2 to get where I'm going, I top off the fuel before I return. I try to never go below 1/2 a tank if I can avoid it.

Just a thought.

There is a product from penzoil called emergency fuel, i think, its perfectly safe to keep anywhere and is apparently good for 20miles in a road car. Maybe worth a look. Might just be enough to get u there!!!
