Default just bought 1998 2800 scr general questions

Wife and I just purchased a '98 2800 scr, awaiting survey. pretty excited about the upcoming summer here in NE Ohio (lake erie).
The boat is in storage about 45 miles from home with no trailer. I'll be driving it home on the water in the spring.
slightly concerning since it's the first time on the boat, larger than ive had in the past and cold water that time of year.
anything owners can think of that I should be aware of or check for?
7.4 with 466 hours.
any info appreciated.
thanks BB

Congrats to you and your wife on your new boat and welcome to the website! There is also a maxum facebook page if your interested. I have a 3000 and love it.Maxum made a nice boat.

Before you take your trip check all things rubber. Impeller, out drive boots, belts anything rubber. I would try to find out from the PO what was serviced. Your survey will point you in the right direction of condition. A mechanical survey will pen point any problems in that area. Hope you are going for a boat ride with the surveyor before you sign. I have always said give it three years to get out all in any kinks out.

Good luck we need pictures

Roger

Baby Blue welocme aboard. I made a similar run 7 years ago with my 2400 SCR, just be smart and leave plenty of time. Plot the course ahead of time.

I think Roger outlined all the things to check. I would also get a handheld IR termal gun and check engine and manifold temps.

Also have all the saftey gear, PFDs, flares, VHF,...

Once you have in the water ready to go have a Vessel Safety Check for your boat. This expection is done by a qualified USPS or USGCA member. This inspection makes sure you have all the reguirements that the USGC wants you to have for your size of boat. You get a sticker for your boat ,if you pass, plus a written copy for your insurance agent and could save you some dollars on you premium. Just google VSC and learn more.

Again good luck and let's see some pics for your trip
