Default Insurance

Just insured my 2005 Maxum 2400 SC3 with Geico and they would only insure it for $17000 w/$500 deductible including all the equipment, when I have well over 2K in fish finder, sounder, gps, radio, fishing poles, tackle, stuff and only 2K for the Tandem Axle Trailer. That amount was a fight and I know they won't pay that much out if I have a total loss. I am afraid to put her in the water.

Guess they don't even know how much tires cost!

Try calling a marine specific multi-line agency. There are several out there. These agencies only write marine insurance policies and represent a variety of marine insurance companies. They will get you quotes from several different vendors and should be able to find you a plan more in line with your expectations.

I prefer working with an agent as opposed to direct (Geico, Progressive, etc) there are more options and your agent is (hopefully) working in your interest, not a specific insurance company.

BOATUS Is now owned by Geico. I was calling BoatUS and was unhappy to hear GEICO now owns them. I tried explaining to the guy he must have the wrong boat but he insisted so I went to KBB, etc and yes over 60K and the tandem trailer with accessories well over 4K. I have tried to get personalized insurance but of course they take a cut but they are only interested in writing more policies. I cannot tell you the trouble FOREMOST caused with all of my rental properties...

Perhaps because of all the illegal activity the way of the good Insurance plan is gone.

Become a United States Power Squadron member>>> They have a great insurance for your boat and rated one of the best....

That is the only reason I stay a member because of the insurance !
