Default High Pitched Alarm - Ignition 'ON' position

hi..I'm a new owner of a used Maxum 1800MX (2008) and I have a basic question (the manual alludes to this, but is not specific). On land, when I turn the ignition key to 'ON', a high-pitched alarm sounds. Is this by design? Perhaps to let me know the alarm system is working? I don't want to put it in the water if this is a problem.
thanks

Welcome aboard

Yes the alarm will sound as a test feature also there is a safety feature of low oil pressure that will cause the alarm to sound. Since you have the key to on but not start the engine the alam will continue to squeal past the test period.

This high pitch is extremely annoying loud.

Is there any way to soften the sound from it? Where is the speaker placed?

It's under the helm and is loud so you can hear it while under way if a real fault were to occur.

Some folks install a switch to turn it off when starting then back on once started so it's there if needed.
