I think most of them are pretty easy to use.....garmin makes a few good ones and easy to use...I have a handheld unit I have as a backup ..76cx....then there's the garmin unit that has both fishfinder and gps....pretty simple and easy...then on the new boat I got a lowrance HS5...it's a great unit but seriously complicated...has has the capability to go 3d on the fish finder....

West marine has a sale on the 76CX

raymarine makes a few great units ..look for the ones that can either be built in or comes with the shoot thru the hull transducer....that way it there is nothing hanging down in the stern......

Good suggestions by Steve - the Lowrance HDS-5 has received some very good remarks from what I have read.

I was in the same position as you at this time last year Keith - new to boating and needed a GPS. From what I read Garmin was the top pick for it's ease of use/intuitive user interface. I ended up with a 541S. I also sprung for the extra G2 card (for the Chesepeake Bay area) which adds detail to the map and lots of other features. Well worth it.

I also shopped hard for it. Best price I found was at BOE Marine - and Jim's service was second to none. http://www.boemarine.com/
