Fundraiser for NEW Forum Software
Hi All, we are looking at upgrading our forum software to vBulletin. I feel that we have outgrown phpBB and vBulletin is more robust and has a ton more features that will make this site even better. The cost of the software is $235. I am asking the community here to donate anything they can towards this cost. Once we have enough funds we will purchase the software and install and migrate over the Database and then test and configure. This should take a week or two.
If you could donate anything it would be greatly appreciated and it will be noted under your profile on the new board.
Please send any donations to jhabers@gmail.com or click on the "donate now" button in the forum here.
Please also post below once you donate!
Thanks! We are excited in bringing this forum to the next level!
Jonathan

Re: Fundraiser for NEW Forum Software
Challenge to all users!! :hello:
Count me in John. $30 bones.
Funny, never even got the hull wet this season (dislocated temporary in Texass). Never even got to summerize it even. Back in storage, next season will be better!
Thanks for keeping this forum alive. I know its helped a lot of boaters besides myself.
Full sails to all, ski season is on.

Re: Fundraiser for NEW Forum Software
Done via Paypal. Nobody cares how much money they saved when they're all alone with a problem and nobody to get advice from. Think of it as the money you save by doing the work you would have otherwise had to pay a professional to do.
Let's not be quick to seek advice and slow to support the resources. Especially you site members with a Lt Commander status or higher. We participate in one of the most exepensive recreational hobbies out there........we can ALL afford a couple of dollars.

Re: Fundraiser for NEW Forum Software
Just want to give a small update, Like I posted previously the new forum software has been purchased, it is currently in the beta4 stage. vBulletin 4 beta 4, We have installed it and have a test forum set up that seapuppy and I are currently in the process of learning and working on customizing the layout. There will be a bunch of new features:
Some include a new
Article-based CMS Publishing (Content Managment System) - I would love to fill this with How-To's, reviews ect. Get thinking guys! Do you have any tips or tricks that you can post that would be helpfull?
Blogs - Users can have their own blogs on the site...Have a nice day out on the boat and want to post about it with some pics? Go to a boat show and want to talk about it? ect....Blogs can also be promoted into the CMS which is pretty cool....threads can too!
Built in photo gallery for users, very nice and easy to use!
A very nice UI (User Interface)
A few downsides:
Your current passwords will not convert over, you will need to reset your password the first time you try to login to the new board (you will need to click on "forgot password")
Currently IE6 doesnt not work (or looks horrible) with the new software, they say that they will fix this but currently it does not look pretty
---
More updates to come once we make more progress
Jon
