Default Exhaust note louder today

Just got back from boating with my '04 2400SE and noticed that the exhaust note (tone) was significantly louder.

Check exhaust bellows and internal exhaust hoses on y-pipe, one has failed.

Yes sure enough Mike the exhaust bellows boot came off at the transom. couple of questions:

Would water have gain entry anywhere it should not have and I ran it like that for 2 hours coming home before I noticed it.

Any suggestions on how to reattach it. It looks pretty tight to access.

The water that is used to cool the engine is injected into the exhaust stream at the risers to cool the exhaust so there is already water there, no issue. Hard to reinstall, normally its installed with the drive off and attached to the transom assembly first then the bellows tool is used to pull it back onto the bellhousing flange.

Try trimming the drive all the way in to see if you can work it back on.
