Default Electrical question

Hello All,

I just purchased a 2002 2900 SCR with gen set and 3 battery setup. My question is, what is the typical setup for the batteries? It seems that the gen set has it's own battery and the other two are "start" and "house". When I switch the battery selector to 1 it powers all systems and starts the engine. With the selector on 2, nothing operates. All batteries are putting out 12+ volts. Any thoughts?

First thought is that #2 isn't wired correctly, or at all. Placing the switch at #2 should, at least, power the "house" loads.

Have you been able to verify the wiring?

Welcome aboard.

3 batteries and how many switches? Sounds like only 1 that is off - 1 - 2- both. If so One of the two positions (1 or 2) should start engine while the other postion is for house.

Twins with a Genny wire their batteries differently than a single with no genny. I suspect you have a couple of isolation switches in play. Many of my friends with this setup don't have dedicated house batt.'s. Instead they isolate the genny batt. only and switch back and forth between their other two batteries. I suppose the idea is you keep them topped off with the genny on a daily basis and worst case scenario, you start the genny, then use the power from the genny to start the engines.

I sounds like only a single engine "starts the engine" but none the less needs to determine how they are currently wired first then figure out how he wants it set up.

Thanks all, I do need to figure out how they are wired I just haven't had warm enough weather to be able to comfortably take the time to figure it out! I was just thinking someone probably has a similar setup that could shed some light.

There are 2 battery switches. One with 1-2-both and one with on-off for the gen set. My guess is as shrew stated, that the gen set battery is isolated and worst case, you start it and charge the other two for starting.
