Default Dies while cruising

All,

I have a 1999 1900 Sr three times yesterday while cruising at 30 mph it would randomly just die. Put it in neutral and it fired right back up and off we go. Any thoughts?

This sounds like a loose wire. I would check the 10 pin engine harness connector to be sure it’s fully mated and ignition system wires.

Where is the 10 pin connector? Ignition wires? Coil and rotor?

The connector is a round plug on the engine harness that connects the engine harness to the helm harness. Should be on top of the engine starboard side. Check wires on the small terminals of the ignition coil.

Thank you. I started messing with it and it died. Removed and re tightened the hose clamp. Cross fingers.

Common issue. Inspect the contacts for corrosion and use an electrical dielectric grease on them.

Well, that didn't fix it. I'll keep looking.

Does it truly fire right back up? If so that rules out the coil and ignition sensor. Also rules out a clogged fuel tank vent. Still sounds like an electrical connection.

Would need to be really bad. Typically only an issue when shifting out of gear.
