Default Cruisair a/c buzzing loudly in 2800scr

So there I was, relaxing in the cabin to escape the oppressive outside heat when I hear the loud vibration buzzing coming from the air conditioning unit. I figured it was the aluminum housing with a lose screw or something but no... it seems to come directly from the compressor. I shut it down for a minute and it turned back on okay but the sound came back after about 10 minutes. The unit is still cooling however, I think that given the unit is 20 years old - I’m screwed. I phoned the local boat a/c repair man who wants $1350 to replace the compressor - that’s with me removing the unit, bringing it to him and installing back myself. Very expensive.
Does his price sound right? He says that he only has a few R22 units left and that I am lucky to have it repaired for so cheap.
Should I just bite the bullet?
Cruisair product 207-005500 model ZF5 serial BO - C02334
I would appreciate any advice. I love this forum.

If you've not already removed the unit, I would spend $40 bucks (probably on $20 in the states) and install a Supco SPP hard start kit (piggy backs onto the current capacitor - I believe the Cruisair is a Dometic product). It may work and/or lengthen the life of your current unit, https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Check the Amazon comments

I would think you could buy a complete new Dometic A/C unit that was much more efficient and more BTU's even for <$2,000 (https://citimarinestore.com/en/self-...207500316.html), but I would try the $40 fix first, imo

Which capacitor should this be connected to 1. Run capacitor 2. Start capacitor? Thanks.
