Default Cost to replace lower unit

Hi all, im obviously new here but figured this would be the best place to ask my questions.
I found a 2000 Maxum 1900sc for sale locally but it has a few issues. The owner claims to have hit a crab pot and damaged the lost unit, which now needs to be replaced. What should I expect to pay for something like this? Also said the engine is really dirty and needs a good flush and it was stored uncovered in the driveway this summer so its cruddy inside as well.

Looking to get an idea of what it would cost to get this thing fixed and cleaned up. Id just like to winterize it as I wont have time to get it out this year anyway.

Thanks in advance for the help

sounds like a "fish" story top me.

Meaning he knows what wrong with it, he's just giving you the sales version.

I'd get a marine surveyor to inspect it, and take his fee off the sale price.

Out drive for an old ALPH1 can be $600 used.

But you'll go back with something better, like a BRAVO and new its $2,500 and up.

I suspect the engine is tired after 12 years.

Boat detail is $300 to get a guy to clean it up.

You can get a new lower from SEI for around 700 if memory serves me right. I replaced one on a 1900 Caravelle a few years ago.
One person and a floor jack can replace this in about 30-45 mins. Not a big job at all.
