Default Commander 3000 sloppy

I am experiencing some issues with my Commander 3000 throttle/shift control. 2400 SCR with a 5.0L, Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive. When in forward gear there is several inches of play before increasing RPM's. Same when slowing down. I know this is no longer made but wondering if there is a quick fix? Not opposed to replacing but don't know if there is a direct replacement. Not wanting to replace shift and throttle cables if possible.
