Default Buying Maxum 1800 MX 2005

Thinking of buying Maxum 1800 MX 2005 as a first family boat.

Would this be a good first boat?
Is there anything I should watch out for?
What checks should I make?

Hope you can help

Hi Baradcc
welcome to the zoo...your looking at a good boat but be aware..it's mainly a lake boat and not really designed for open water...is it a bow rider??..are you going to use it for fish and ski??

make sure that the hull is sound...get a survey...and then take a boating safety course with your whole family so that everyone things safety ...ensure that everyone has a pfd......

do you know anything of the history on this boat??..maintenance practices??...the first thing to do is change out the raw water impeller, oil, plugs and distributor cap/rotor...wires...zinc's...outdrive oil also...
this will basically set you up at zero maintenance....then have a good time......

The MX is a good boat but really really stripped down.... personally I'd look at the Bayliner 185/175's first. IF your budget allows I'd really gun for one of the SR3 boats - the 1800SR3 gets you much more boat for very little more money.

What kind of water are you hitting? The MX don't really have any issues - there's nothing to go wrong! Minimal electronics, they all have the old tried and true 3.0 litre 135hp merc's in them... don't expect draw dropping performance but its acceptable.
