Default Bravo 3 shift cable question

I replace bellows and lower shift cable 2 years ago on my bravo 3.everything worked well but I noticed This season I dont catch reverse on the first click back. I have to go slightly further. We didn’t have the speciality tool to set the cable. Took a measurement which was fine until this year. maybe got some stretching going on this year.
Question is :
Do I need to shorten to lengthen the cable?
Thanks
Mark

Could be the upper cable getting old. Have you checked the alignment lately? I would do that first. I have read where the jaws on the drive wear and don’t hold the cable as well as the cam on the upper half of the drive breaking but in that case the owner get stuck in reverse.

Thanks for the info.
I did pull the drive this spring and greased the U joints.
I was very careful to make sure the cable went in the clam shell properly but that’s something I may have to check again

Is there a way to adjust the shift cable at the helm? I’m thinking it just needs an adjustment.
Thanks
Mark

Nope, the throttle end is fixed and the other end has the adjustment barrel.

Finally got time to adjust upper shift cable. Simple and easy. Works good now.
Thanks for all the info.
