Bravo 3 lost prop?
1998 Maxum SCR
454 single engine
Bravo 3
700 hours
Headed out on Lake Erie this evening for cruise with family.
Started to get up on plane and severe cavitation like engine went in neutral.
Limped back to the dock
Tilted drive and and shocked to see the rear prop and of course nut were gone. Inner prop was still there.
Only thing I can think of is 2 years ago put a prop anode kit on it. Made for this year even though it didn’t come with one from factory. Kit has anode and replacement nut to hold the anode.
3 questions:
1. Does the nut go on in opposite direction of prop rotation so nut can’t work loose?
2. I see a lot of aftermarket bravo 3 prop sets. Costs from $500 to $1,300. Any recommendations?
3 Do I have to replace both props? Or can I buy just the rear?
22 pitch is all I can read wit deuce tilted up.
Thanks for any info offered
BB

As far as I know it’s standard thread, clockwise to tighten.

With only one engine these would be right hand props right?
Thanks

A Bravo 3 has counter rotating props, one right hand and one left hand. Call Hill Marine and ask for advice as I hear they are very helpful with prop questions.

Thanks. I meant with a single drive which hand it the outer prop.
I was able to get the number off the inner and found the one for the outer.
I’ll post it here in case anyone searches later for prop numbers.
These were 22 pitch
1998 Bravo 3
48 823663 A6 22P inner
48 823664 A6 22P outer
Thanks

I understand the question just don’t know the exact answer. On a single drive one prop rotates clockwise and the other counter clockwise just not sure which is which.

Got ya. I’m thinking with twin drives the props have different numbers for each side. I’ll find out for sure.
Thanks for the help.

If I remember right the outer prop spins clockwise while the inner counter clockwise...
You need to pull and lube your prop shafts as a part of the annual maintenance....

I just switched out my 3x3 22p prop on my Bravo 3 for a 4x3 Solas 4x3 20p.
Dont waste your time looking for a expensive 3x3 replacement, go to a 4x3.
My thoughts.

Your inner is Left-Hand rotation. The outer is Right-Hand rotation. You can see the rotation in the picture in post # 1. Since BIII is counter rotating, I don't believe they installed counter rotating drives, like they would with single-prop installation.
The 4b inner, 3 blade outer (22.5P) is what I installed (Maxum 2800 Single 8.1) when I re-propped.

Interesting.... thanks for the info. I found one online from a prop shop in CA. Pretty reasonable too. Should be back up and running in a few days.
thanks all
