Default boat disposal/recycling

Hello everyone,

My 2009 Maxum 2300 sank in late February in lake water. While I was told that the engine could possibly be "pickled" it was not done quickly enough to allow for the engine to be rescued. The insurance settled and declared the boat a total loss, so my questions is this:

What can be done with a boat that is in otherwise intact condition? It is missing a couple of cushions and both captains chairs (yes, there's a mystery there) but otherwise there didn't appear to be any external damage (no chewed bellows, hull damage, bilge was still working post lift).

I hate to just contribute to a landfill issue, so I'm hoping someone in this group has a suggestion of what can be done with this boat and trailer.
TIA,
Jim

Oops! I meant to say 2004, not 2009 Maxum. Jim

Typically if the insurance company totals it they sell it for salvage. You could do the same otherwise a landfill will take the hull after you remove ALL metal.

Did you agree to keep the boat for a reduced settlement? Effectively taking less money for the opportunity to pay to dispose of the boat for them?
