welcome to the zoo....look on the stbd side stern of the boat..there is an HIN number there...write that down and contact USMARINE..we have a contact number in the general forum ...they will tell you all they have on that boat and what options...then if you like they will send you an owners manual...

Hi Josh, welcome aboard the board. Congrats on the new purchase!!! I believe that in 1988, Maxum made a 1700 and a 2000. I would guess that measuring in at 19.7, that is probably a 1988 Maxum 2000. There should be a HIN (Hull identification Number) on the exterior Starboard side of the transom. Pull the HIN and you could call Techinical Support/Customer Service and they might be able to give you specifics on the model.

I'm not sure how far back their archives go, but to my knowledge, Brunswick started Maxum back in 1988 as opposed to buying them like other models. If I recall, it was an attempt to bridge the gap between the more expensive Searays, and the more affordable (entry-level) Bayliners, which by the late 80's were having some significant reputation problems. The root of the reputation for the Bayliners has long since been addressed, but people carry them all these years later. The lions share of sales still go to Searay and Bayliner and steep declines in boat sales as the result of our recent economy forced Brunswick to decide to discontinue the Maxum line recently.

(Thimbnail history, please feel free to correct me).

The title also says 'Canopy' but there is no question on that. Are you also looking for a replacement canvas?

Canvas Plus (canplus@aol.com) has all of the old Maxum patterns for upholstery. I also bought some trim peices from them. Leta's Top Shop does OEM canvas (letastopshop.com) for Maxum boats. As for aftermarket, I just ordered a bimini top from iboats.com. I'm hoping to install it this weekend and will let you know how it goes.
