Boarding ladder step replacement 3000SCR

I have a 3000 SCR with the Windline UP3 boarding ladder.

Unfortunately I had a mis-hap and need to replace the bottom step. I have a replacement step in hand already. Has anybody successfully replaced a step on one of these? It looks like it's just a pin that needs to be pulled out but it doesn't want to come out with just pliers? Any wisdom appreciated, and Happy New Year!
