Default Bilge pump...

Today, I bought a 2008 1800mx but have not yet taken delivery. I noticed on the Maxum website it states it has a manual bilge pump and while there is a switch on the dash, does manual mean I have to flip the switch to turn it on (ie. no float switch) or it is a manual process to pump out the bilge?

I'm trying to plan for immediate upgrades like the bilge pump, an hour meter and a depth finder and any help is appreciated.

If it's a manual pump I am definitely going to install an electric one right away. How accessible are the wires running from the helm to the bilge and is there room in the bundle to conceal a bilge pump wire?

Thanks in advance.

PS, this is not my first boat but it is my first *new* boat and my first Maxum.

Congratulations on the new boat.

It will be electric, with a switch on the helm to activate it. If you are going to store the boat on the water, you may want to change it to an automatic pump. The newer types don’t require an external flipper type float switch. They have an internal water sensor.

The 1800MX is the only model that comes with a manual pump. All the rest are equipped with a manual/automatic pump.

That's definitely what I was hoping to hear as I wasn't looking forward to tearing into the brand new boat the first week I have it. I have no plans right now to store the boat on the water but there have been times when I've left my current boat (1975 Regal 21' Cuddy) anchored at the sand bar and had a significant amount of water come over the stern. The Regal has a much higher transom than the Maxum so it's definitely a concern.

Thank you.

Thanks to both of you, and I definitely will post some pics once I take them. With some luck, I'll get lots of pics over the course of the upcoming season to post.
