Well here we go. My port battery reads 12.25v. I removed the positive cable from the port battery (that is hooked to perko) and removed the perko cables (generator and starter). I then hooked a test light to the negative battery terminal and tested the generator and starter cables. The starter cable lit up. I disconnected the house positive cables and retested. No juice. Both engines (8.1) appear to be wired the same for each starter. The little wire (with fuse) connects to the big stud with the battery cable. I don't understand the wiring enough to make 1/2 *ss sense. I do believe the little fuse wiring is drawing my starter battery down. Am I correct and can I rewire to create a stand along bank for my generator and port starter?

Yes you can rewire it for separate banks, see this link for methods.

My problem is I don't know if the original wiring of battery banks was intended to draw juice from both banks or not. Or did someone make a change. I want to have it wired the way it was originally. I'm under the impression the original design has port engine and generator isolated to one bank.....and that's it. Thoughts?

Unless another owner of a 3500 can answer that question I don’t know what to tell you.
