any experience with OB kicker shaft extension kits?

I'm looking to purchase an 8 or 9.9 4stroke kicker, most likely a Yamaha. The long shaft (20") won't get deep enough if mounted off of the back swim grid on a fixed mount. Anyone have any experience/advice with adding an extension kit to this type of motor?
