Default Alpha one Gen 2 outdrive will not go back in!

I am beyond frustrated and hope someone can assist. I removed the outdrive for a gimbal replacement along with the bellows. Everything went pretty smooth until the outdrive will not go back in. I have pulled this thing multiple times and cannot figure out what the issue is. It is in drive and it just seems that it's hitting something. Thoughts?

Is the shifter in forward? Is the drive in forward? You may need to turn the prop shaft slowly to get the shaft splines to align with the coupler splines. If this doesn’t work verify the gimbal bearing is fully seated.

Yes, the shifter is forward. It took about 30m to get the outdrive back out of that position...this is just crazy. I did install the gimbal...I thought was all the way. I guess it wouldn't hurt to pound on it some more :-)

Did you check engine alignment with an alignment tool after replacing the bearing? It’s crucial that the alignment is good.

Yes, I did the alignment. I am totally lost at this point. I rechecked the transom repair kit via Quicksilver it is correct. I'm heading out to check on the gimbal depth to make sure it is seated correctly. Thanks for your reply.

I just did another alignment test but I noticed on some videos that the alignment tool reaches the splines? Anyway, the tool goes in smoothly.

A thing I do to help is place a long screwdriver between the bellhousing and gimbal ring to help keep the drive aligned to the bearing and coupler. Again try turning the prop shaft to get the splines to align while pushing on the drive.

Alignment tool should engage into the splines..
Smearing grease around the end of the alignment tool and inserting allows you to see the spline pattern on the tool when removed (and adjust mounts as needed for an even pattern)

Found the problem. The quicksilver rebuild kit came with the wrong gimbal! Now my removal tool doesn't fit through it to remove it.

Interesting as I didn’t know there were different sizes.

That sounds like an engine alignment issue.
