Default 3300 scr forward v berth hatch and gas lift rod

Looking to relocate (or replace with higher rated) the 60# gas lift rod on the v berth under storage hatch.

Seems the original placement was ineffective by having the rod side down near the middle cross section and running forward into hatch in about a 30' angle. Even with the mattress off, the prop gave no benefit in assisting during the lift nor holding the hatch open.

i quickly moved the gas portion towards aft and now have around a 60' angle or slightly more. it now works perfectly with the mattress off. I placed the mattress back on and it does not hold. if i reduce the weight slightly by giving some support up on mattress, it will hold.

Has anyone worked on this before or have a different position with a 60# rod?

this would save me time to attempt to calculate everything needed to determine size and placement. thanks !
