Default 2700 vs 2800 vs 2900

Wondering if anyone can give me some realistic differences here other than the extra ft of LOA on each model.

I believe we will be shopping later models (was 2004 the change year?) In this length I believe the 2006 models I've seen fit our budget.

I currently have a 30ft MAX slip. I could get on the waiting list for a 32FT Max slip.

It seems like I could do a 2700 + swim step and be OK where I am. or a 2800 with no swim step and be OK where i am, or I go up to a 2900 and move up to the larger slip.

But I'm having a hard time deciding which boat I should be looking at most seriously and wondered if people could give me some feedback.

we have the 2400 scr now and love it but want a little more room and we want the fixed bed in the forward berth rather than the dinette.

In the cockpit, we really like the horseshoe layout for aft seating, particularly having the two benches that face the aft table being the same height..

2700 has an 8'6" beam. The settee converts to the Vberth.

2800 has a 9'9" beam. The settee is a booth style and with a dedicated v-berth.

2900 is a rebadged 2800 with a revamped interior. Instead of a booth style settee, it is a crescent shaped settee.

Does that mostly only apply to the later models? I have found older model 2700s with the fixed bed setup like this

The boat in the link represents 94’ to 99’ and in 2000 is a completely different boat.

Do you know approximately when each model stopped being made? or were 2700s made up until the end?

This is getting difficult/borderline frustrating for me to understand.

So in year 2000 Did Maxum stop doing the fixed bed forward in the cabin and do only the folding dinette situation for 2700s? I'm finding a few 2700s for sale that are post 2000 (like 2006) and none of them have the forward bed.

Also, did they stop making 2800s after 2000? I can't find any online.

I believe there were 3 versions of the 2700; pre 1994, 1994 - 1999, and 2000 - 2009 when the line was shut down. I’m sure this is not 100% correct but close enough. The 2000 and newer had a 8’6” beam and dinette/forward berth while the older models were wider beamed with a true forward berth.

Two things I've noticed about the 2900s I'm finding online (there aren't a lot to look at).

A. the 2900s that went to Europe have the cockpit seating reversed. Even though the helm is still starboard, I notice the seating is on the port side.

B. I'm also seeing full wetbars and grills in the cockpit on the European ones, but not on the American ones.

There is a container right behind the captains chair in the cockpit on the 2900s. Is that just storage or is it a cooler with a drain?

The 1994 2700 is IDENTICAL to the 1997 2800 I used to own. So it looks like they had another rebadging somewhere between 1994 and 1997. I also recall at one point someone pointing out a 2700 with a 9'9" beam.

This is the 2900 SE which is a different boat from the older 2900 that initially replace the 2800.

From 2001-2007 2700SE had a beam of 9'5 and length of 28'1, before extended swim-deck with "salon" seating converting into v berth. From 2008 2700SE is rebadged 2600SE, smaller boat with length 27ft and beam of 8'6, similar interior layout. Proud owner of a 2007 2700SE, but you can never have a big enough boat!

Out of interest the 2007 Maxum model brochure shows 3100 as the next model up from 2700, also with no fixed bed, the 3300 is the only SE with a fixed bed, length 35'7 and beam 11'5.

HI Glenn, thanks for sharing your info. Are you saying that in 2007 specifically, the smallest fixed bed vessel from Maxum was the 3300?

That 2900 I posted above isn't a 2007, but it is a 2008 with a fixed bed.

But what's interesting to me is that the cockpit layout is the version I normally only see in European models and the fixed bed is quite different shape than other ones I have seen. This boat is I think probably about $20k more than I want to max out at, but it's sure pretty with a very nice cabin.

I am leaning more and more towards the 2900 coming in just at 30FT so perfect for us. But finding the right configuration in my price range might be tougher.

It's a gorgeous boat, if you have a photoalbum or youtube channel I'd love to see more of yours and know more details about it.

I think this one is beyond what I'm comfortable with budget wise right now, but what an amazing boat. that interior is beautiful.

Hi Dustin

Yes, Im specifically going from the 2007 Maxum brochure. The 2900SE was made from 2008 onwards. Very nice boat!

Thank! I'm still learning a lot. I have been up to the Ranger Tug facility many times since they are local to me and been able to walk on boats from 21ft to 40ft+ before they are outfitted with only the molds complete so I know that these boats are always configurable in dozens of ways for a new buyer who is pre-ordering. I'm just trying to see what options exist in these old Maxums.

I will say that when I first got into Maxums I was a little nervous about a brand that isn't supported anymore. Now after having one for a year, I've come to find that the Maxums really have better layouts in my opinion than the Sun Dancers, Regals, Rinkers, etc.
