Default 1989 maxum bowrider 1700 xr?

Hull ID: usje61mfe989

thats about all I know other then it floats, and the 1976 johnson 135hp v4 gets it up to 35mph in a hurry lol.

If anyone has an OEM picture of what this boat is supposed to look like please let me know... I've seen a few google pics but either my interior has had a major overhaul or I've got a one off looking boat.

ok here is a boat claiming to be a 1989 1700xr
couple of things that are different... 1... command center: I have a speedo and a fuel guage. this thing looks like something from a 90's model.
2... the bow. the seating I have is the same except the depth of the back rests is much shorter... by say 4 inches. so it would be very easy to go overboard up front in my boat.

I gotta wonder... is my boat inbred?

Since both Bayliner and Maxum are made by Brunswick, possibly for some time they were making that model Maxum in a Bayliner plant? I would think they would still use the appropriate MIC in the HIN though.

I dont know... I was thinking it was a bayliner that had a maxum decal kit put on cause it looks nothing like all the other maxum 1700 xr's I've seen online. mainly the console is lacking alot of guages and the seating is abit shallow for the maxum models in the bow. someone mentioned that the I/O had more guages but all the boats I've seen are O/B motors and still have 5+ guages which would have been nice since I like knowing what my motor is doing and how the pressures and temps are on any fluids being used.

i have owned one of those a long time ago
sure looks like a maxum to me
the 135 bhp seems a bit overpowerd ( but beeing that old it will probably have only 60% of the max power)
i had a 1600 with a 90 bhp force
it had a topspeed of 55 miles and was good on the gas/milage
problem of those bathtubs is that the moment you open the throttle the only thing you can see is the sky and water coming in at the stern

Rens, no way to trim the outboard down far enough for level cruising? I imagine this boat is a planer, how about trim tabs/smart tabs?

yeah I know what you mean about looking skyward but my old girl planes off quickly and it's smooth riding from there on out.
not running at full capacity? well then I guess I'll be looking into a full rebuild to get it back up to full power.

you could think of a "shark tail" (hydrofoil)
these things bolt down on the outboard engine and help levelling it
had one and it really helps a lot
