Hi Maxum boaters. i'm thinking about moving from a 27 cruiser to 41 Maxum fly with twin 380 Cummins diesels. Anyone have advice on the 41? planning on getting accredited marine surveyor and diesel oil analysis.

I would have a marine surveyor do the hull and systems. However, I would hire a certified Cummins service tech. to do the engine survey and oil analysis separately.

Have the initial survey by the surveyor first. If hull, superstructure and most systems check out, then schedule a sea trial. Have the engine survey during the sea trial. Both the hull surveyor and engine surveyor should be on the sea-trial together.

Congratulations!!!!

I didn't catch the update or I would have mentioned it earlier. Having the hull survey and the engine survey on the same day MIGHT be risky. Diesel engine surveys are expensive, especially for twins. If the Physical survey failed, the engine survey would have been for naught. A potentially expensive afternoon with nothing to show for it.

However, it looks like it worked out in the long run. I went from a 28 ft boat to a 39 ft boat last year. Yours is an even bigger jump. After spending a season with a fly-bridge, it would be hard for us to go to an express cruiser again.

However, ask that same question next month when I'm in the middle of waxing her.
