We go to the block all the time. We stay at Paynes Dock. Great place!

I may be wrong but if you are planning on staying at the boat basin you may be too late. Don't worry though. Payne's and Champlin's are available. I'm not sure if Payne's takes reservations but Champlin's does. I think Payne's is first come and they will shoe horn you in. Champlin's is larger and the first choice for families. Even with reservations, or not, it really never matters at Champlin's they will fit you in. Even if you are rafted 3 boats out. Reservations don't matter there, though they will save you $.25/ft per night. Block is great! I've been staying at Champlin's for 10 years every year.

We always stayed at the Boat Basin. They're the only ones that don't raft. Unless it was a tournament weekend, they always found some room for me when making reservations a month or so in advance for August visits. They have water, electricity and facilities.

Paynes has water and electric too. They do raft boats out but they are very helpful and make sure you have access to power and water. Great bar and raw bar on the dock in the afternoon!

I go to Block a few times a year. However we anchor, so i can't help much in the marina department.

Champlin's has plenty of electric for all. Even if rafted. If you give a good excuse that someone has trouble climbing you can often get a spot, stern in on a floating dock. Pull into the gas dock as soon as you get there, grab a mudslide, top off and scope out the available spots. Did I mention, grab a mud slide? Champlin's has a pool, and bands on the weekends. If at all possible, bring your dingy. If staying at Champlin's you can dink to the Oar restaurant (next to Boat Basin), Town beach, Coast Guard station beach, go clamming (need to get a $5 permit) or explore deeper into the pond all the way to the Beachhead Restaurant on CornNeck rd.

The Champlin's does have the longest walk to town and the beaches, though...
