Default Newbie Question: SE vs. SCR

So I posted this in the General forum but then realized it's probably more relevant to be posted here.

Newbie question. I'm looking at cruisers in the 30+ foot range (3100 and 3300). For the early 2000's era boats, what are the main differences between the SE and the SCR?

From what I can tell, the SE has a V berth bunk that doubles as a bed, whereas the SCR V berth is a fixed bunk. Is that correct? What are the other differences?

Sorry for the basic question, but I'm new to Maxum and boating so I'm starting with zero knowledge.

Thanks!

Steve

The Year of Manufacture is what makes the difference. They used SCR from the 2400 to the 4200 up until 2002. From 2003 onward, they used the SE designation. then around 2004, the 3500, 3700 and 4200 became SY.

SCR = Sport Cruiser
SE = Sport Express (Sport Cruiser)
SY = Sport Yacht.

Not sure what boat manufacture or model you are refering to however I have seen XC for express cruiser by some manufactures.

XC was used to designate a Sport Boat Model. XC was only used for a few years in the late 90's. For example they had:

1700 XC
1700 XR
1700 SR

I'm not sure what the difference in models was.

I'd like to bump this old thread to see if anyone can answer with more clarity. We have a 2400 SCR with the v-berth that folds down to either bed or up to dinette.

I have been looking to see which models have a fixed bed, that is separate from the dinette. I have seen models as short as the 3100 with a fixed bed, but I know of a 3100 SE that is a dinette v-berth.

is there a standard model/year/ way of knowing which Maxums have a fixed bed in the forward portion of the cabin? or was that simply a configuration that was determined when bought new?

1997 2800SCR has a fixed bed in the bow as well as an aft cabin.

well now I'm really confused lol. a local guy I know has a 3100 SE with the dinette in the bow. When we move up the two things that are most important to us is the fixed bed so we don't have to set it up and take it down every day on trips lasting a week or two. and part of me would like a more functional shower. Sounds like we could solve the bed with a 2800 but the shower will still probably have to be closer to 3500.

The SE and SCR designation have nothing to do with the cabin layout. You will need to get into a mid 30 foot boat to get into a separate (enclosed) shower in the head.

What exactly are the SE and SCR differences?
